Very Very Very Important, “We Demand an end of pathologisation without any loss of need health care.”
That is the kicker here, and why it will be very difficult (at least in the US) to overcome this pathologisation.
It’s also a tricky situation, because pretty much anything not entirely physical that interferes with daily life or is contrary to the norm is considered “mental illness” in our society, and the way mental illness is treated in general is problematic. Regardless of whether or not transsexuality/gender variance is considered a mental illness, trans* people deserve to be free of invasive tests, lack of agency, etc. just like all people deserve to be free of those things (regardless of mental health status in our society).
